GUIDELINES FOR APPLICATION
Here’s what you will need:
Application Materials (for writers, visual artists, & hybrid writers)
Short Bio (under 200 words)
Statement of purpose / interest in this program [up to 500 words]:
How will this program benefit your writing/art/creative life? What do you hope to receive from this course?
What type of work have you made / wish to make / are interested in exploring?
Tell us what it means for you to be a writer with roots connecting to Vietnam or SE Asia, whether as a person of diaspora or currently based in Vietnam or SE Asia
Creative resume / CV (indicating MFA and/or publishing history, if applicable; OPTIONAL: if you do not have a creative resume, you may use the statement of purpose to tell us about your practice thus far)
Work Sample (for Writing Applicants):
Open to any genre: poetry, prose (fiction, creative nonfiction), hybrid, multimedia, etc.
10-20 pages of content total, in one or a mixture of genres (see note below about submitting mixed materials)
If supplying video or audio material, no more than 10 minutes total; this media should be provided as accessible links (in a PDF file)
If supplying text with image, must be formatted to the page (in a PDF file)
It is preferred that you submit all writing/image content in ONE combined PDF file, with separate pieces indicated by titles and page breaks
If you wish to submit a mix of writing + other media materials, your work sample should not exceed more than 10 minutes of media total or 15-20 pages/minutes as a combined total. (Example: you may submit 10 pages of textual material + 10 min. of video or audio; or 15 pages of poetry + a 5-min. video; etc.)
Work Sample (for Visual Art Applicants):
5-6 images of work samples and a brief (250 word max) description/artist statement of each work in a pdf file.
Or: three video samples (4 minutes max per video; please include video link in PDF)
(optional) links to website or social media handle
Note: To send us video, audio or other media files, please provide a work sample item sheet that includes links (i.e. Vimeo, YouTube) to where the material can be seen/heard. Using timecode, indicate exactly which portion of the media you would like us to review, if the existing link contains more than the allotted 10 minutes of material. Or, by default, we will review the first 5-10 min. of material.
File Naming: Each file should indicate your full name and the file subject. For example: “SamNguyen_Statement” “SamNguyen_Resume” “SamNguyen_WorkSample”
